Home of Nelson’s famous hot chocolate pudding

A small, privately owned hostel on Weka St, 0.6 km from the centre of Nelson. A log fire, hammocks in the garden, guitars and games to share, and a free bowl of pudding for every guest at 8pm.

It’s the small things that make us different

We’d like TBB to feel like your favourite café: good music, friendly faces, somewhere comfy to sit, and the atmosphere just right.

The main lounge: blue and green sofas, a striped woven tablecloth, painted cow artworks, a guitar and ukulele on the wall, a bookshelf and the world map

Guitars, games and somewhere comfy to sit

The guitars, other instruments and games are free for guests to use. Free super-fast wifi, and plenty of places to study, work, journal or have some time alone.

When you arrive, join TBB Connect, our hostel WhatsApp group, to suggest things to do.

Free hot chocolate pudding and ice cream

We’ve become well known for it. Every night at 8pm, all year round, the pot comes out and everyone gathers round. Sometimes it’s a fruit crumble instead.

Vegan friendly. Free for every guest.

“The hostel is really welcoming, with so many small things that made me feel home: first the chocolate pudding of course, but also the music instruments and games that we can freely use to play all together, the little plants and candles on the tables, the fire to stay warm in winter, the nice backyard with the hammocks, the little lights outside at nighttime.”

Spring 2026

A big howdy

Spring is here and I’m loving this time of year. Daylight hours are increasing, the weather has been incredibly sunny and everywhere the gardens are coming alive. The hostel is buzzing with new and some returning travellers.

Mark, Rosie, Sam and Henk-Jan run TBB with me and our team of exchange workers. Each week we make soup and bread for a staff lunch, and every night we offer all our guests chocolate pudding and ice cream.

We are very committed to the traveller community, and to a hostel that nurtures care, relationships, fun and sharing of stories. If this sounds like you, come stay with us. We’d love to have you here.
